Job Title: Personal Assistant.

Location: Treharris, CF46.

Hourly Rate: £14 per hour with mileage to be claimed at £0.40 pence per mile.

Hours: 4 Hours per week.

Purpose of the role

I am a 13-year-old male with a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD, I live in the Merthyr Tydfil area with my mother, father and younger sister. I am a verbal individual who can communicate to a high standard. I get on well with adults and have a good sense of humour.

It is important to me that I have a structured routine and know what to expect prior. I can sometimes struggle to manage my emotions when I feel upset, frustrated, or when I am unable to communicate my wants and needs effectively. When this happens, it is usually best to allow me time and space to regulate myself, provided it is safe to do so. If I am not given this opportunity, the situation may escalate and I may display behaviours that can be physical in nature.

I prefer to take part in activities in quieter environments, as I can be sensitive to noise. Busy or noisy settings can sometimes feel overwhelming for me and may affect my ability to focus, engage, and enjoy activities. I am usually more relaxed and able to participate when the environment is calm and has minimal background noise. If I know in advance that an environment is going to be busy or crowded, I can become quite anxious.

Having information beforehand about what to expect, along with reassurance and support, can help me feel more prepared and reduce my anxiety.

  • I don’t like demands placed on me

Job Title: Personal Support Assistant (2:1)

Location: Merthyr Tydfil, CF47

Hourly Rate: £14 per hour, plus 20 miles a week to claim at £0.40 pence per mile.

Hours: 5 Hours per week (Term Time)

3 Hours per week (School Holidays)

Purpose of the role

I am a 8yr old girl and I have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and ADHD and I live with my Mum.

I love playing games on my Switch, visiting the shop and watching/playing with Paw Patrol figures. I have a funny and imaginative personality and I can communicate verbally but sometimes get my words mixed up.

I sometimes find it difficult to cope with transitions or unexpected changes, and I may become distressed or overwhelmed. I like to be in control in situations so that I feel safe but this means that expectations can sometimes upset me. I need my PA to be patient but firm and support me to improve my ability to interact with my peers (e.g. sharing and playing appropriately)

I need help with developing my social skills and ability to positively access school and activities. I respond best to positive praise, clear expectations, and gentle guidance. I can be distressed by loud noises or crowded places, so you'll need to be sensitive to my sensory needs and plan accordingly.

This role is more than just supervision - it's about creating a lasting, positive relationship with me. It's about helping me grow in confidence, enjoy new experiences, and develop life skills. Your support will not only improve my well-being but also offer reassurance and help me access the world more safely, confidently and joyfully.

Main Duties

I currently require a PA to support me on a 2:1 basis alongside my existing PA, at times when I am accessing the community and activities outside of my home.

The role of my Personal Assistant (PA) is vital in supporting me to access daily life experiences that my peers enjoy. I need a kind, calm and consistent adult who can help me term-time and during school holidays.

This includes helping me with transitioning to and from activities, supporting me to play safely, and encouraging me to explore my interests through community activities and structured social opportunities. Your support will also give my Mum some respite.

As my PA, you will work up to 5 hours per week during term time. Ideally, these hours will be used to help me transition to school, to social clubs and to support me to spend time outside of my home doing activities I enjoy.

During school holidays, you will work up to 3hrs per week (days and times can be flexible).

You'll need to be patient and adaptable, able to use tools like visual timetables, Now and Next boards, and calming strategies to help me regulate my emotions and feel secure. I sometimes resist transitions, so being physically able to support me safely and calmly is important.

Personal Assistant Specification

  • Will need a DBS check (this can be arranged if not current)

  • A person with experience of working with individuals with additional needs.

  • A car and full driver’s license are essential

  • Ability to be assertive, set clear boundaries and have a firm manner to keep me safe.

  • Full training will be provided in house.

About The job
