Payroll Options

There are three main payroll options for you, if you're employing a PA and using Virtual Wallet.
The sections below provide a brief explanation of each option, so you can decide which option is right for you.
PPL Payroll
The PPL Payroll service was developed to complement our Virtual Wallet offering. We understand that employing one or several Personal Assistants can be time consuming for individual employers. We are also sensitive to the fact that PAs need reliable payments, on time, every time.
With that in mind, PPL have developed our in-house payroll offering to seamlessly pay PAs alongside other care services in Virtual Wallet. Our payroll team take care of all payments to your staff, your pension provider and HMRC using your direct payment or personal health budget, as agreed with you.
Services include:
- Online completion of timesheets and approvals
- Digital payslips direct to your employee
- Sick and maternity pay calculations
- Student Loan repayments
- Electronic filings with HMRC
- Pension calculations and payments.

PPL Payroll Plus
Employing a Personal Assistant (PA) when you have a direct payment can seem overwhelming. Finding the right PA is the hard part (although the team at PPL can help you with that).
Once you have your PA, getting everything set up right is the next challenge. There is a lot to arrange, such as setting up the payroll, arranging insurance and making sure that you are being a good employer. Traditionally, an employer would need to arrange each of those things separately.
Our new Payroll Plus offering solves that problem. Three of the leading organisations in the direct payments sector have partnered to provide everything that an employer and their PAs need in one simple bundle with a low monthly cost.
It is a simple idea, but is a first within the direct payments sector. The benefits are:
- For employers: Reassurance that everything is covered, with less hassle to arrange it.
- For PAs: Access to support, training and benefits akin to working for a large organisation.
- For funding authorities: Assurance that all requirements are met whilst ensuring value-for-money.
Payroll Plus is initially being made available to those people who use Virtual Wallet to manage their direct payment. In due course, we may look to offer it to those that manage direct payments in other ways.

3rd Party Payroll Services
Alternatively, you can choose to work with another 3rd party payroll organisation.
You would need to provide us with the details of your preferred payroll provider and inform them that you are using Virtual Wallet.
We would also require you to provide us with timesheets and payment information 3 days before the payroll pay dates, so we can ensure your PAs are paid on time.
